I joined the Sir John Colfox Academy in 1999 as a teacher of French and German. At this time the school had opened the new buildings and we had just become a designated Language College. This brought many opportunities for the whole school but particularly in the development of languages within our curriculum. Since then I have held many roles and responsibilities within the school one of which was Head of Modern Foreign Languages for several years. I continue to teach French from Key Stage 3 through to A Level in Year 13.
Since becoming a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the school I have taken on more whole school responsibilities. Currently I am Director for Standards and Achievement at Key Stage 3 – Years 7 and 8. This involves working closely with a talented team of professionals including primary school colleagues in our local feeder schools to ensure a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7. From September 2016 my transition role will focus on ensuring the continuation of good progress for all of our Year 7 and 8 students across the curriculum and the development of intervention programmes where needed to help support our students.
In addition to this, I am also the Academy co-ordinator for Initial Teacher Training where I work collaboratively with University partners and the Jurassic Coast Teaching Schools’ Alliance: a partnership of local primary and secondary schools committed to school improvement. I also co-ordinate the induction programmes for our newly qualified teachers, supporting them in a successful beginning to their teaching careers.
