Astronomy GCSE launched for Students interested in Space

More students keen to study space at the Sir John Colfox Academy will now be able to take a new GCSE in Astronomy.
The course was launched after the school’s Lead Practitioner for STEM, Lowri David was selected for the prestigious role of 'Space to Learn Space Advocate' with the National Space Academy.
She said: “Lots of Students at Colfox were keen to study Space and take GCSE Astronomy and so I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to introduce this new GCSE course that reflects their interests. Astronomy is fascinating and its been an exciting topic to pursue.”
Adam Shelley, Headteacher, said: “We believe in launching new courses that Students are interested in, as well as Astronomy we’ve also recently introduced new courses in Ancient History, Latin and Law in response to Student requests.”
More Colfox students this year have opted to take Astronomy as an additional GCSE, following the success of last year’s enthusiastic group of Year 9 and Year 10 Students. Despite sitting the exam early, most were only 14 when they took the papers, they all passed and many achieved top grades, congratulations to them all!
Jasper, 14, who achieved a Grade 7, equivalent to an ‘A’ said: “I have always wanted to learn about Space so I signed up straight away. I was really pleased to get a Grade 7!”
Albert, 15, who also achieved a Grade 7, equivalent to an ‘A’ despite also being only 14 when he sat the examination, said: “It was a very interesting course, I’d recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Space and I was very pleased with my Grade 7.”
