Royal Literary Fellow Paul Mason Inspires Students

The Sir John Colfox Academy was delighted to welcome Paul Mason, acclaimed author and Royal Literary Fellow, for a special visit aimed at helping students strengthen their academic writing skills.

During his visit, Paul delivered an engaging and practical writing workshop for students, offering expert guidance on how to write with greater clarity, confidence, and precision. Drawing on his extensive experience as a published author and educator, he shared valuable tips on how to structure arguments, express ideas effectively, and develop a personal voice in academic work.

Students described the session as both inspiring and useful, praising Paul’s approachable teaching style and his ability to make writing feel creative and accessible.

“It was an incredible opportunity for our students to learn directly from such a talented writer,” said Adam Teasdale, Head of Sixth Form at The Sir John Colfox Academy. “Paul’s advice on how to craft thoughtful, well-structured writing will have a lasting impact on their studies.”

As a Royal Literary Fellow, Paul Mason works with universities and schools across the UK, supporting students to become more confident and effective writers. His visit to Colfox highlights the Academy’s commitment to developing students’ literacy and communication skills - essential foundations for success both in education and beyond.

Paul Mason commented, “I was impressed by the enthusiasm and creativity of the students at Colfox. It’s always a pleasure to see young people engaging so thoughtfully with the craft of writing.” Paul will be returning for a follow-up session with students after half term.

The Sir John Colfox Academy extends its sincere thanks to Paul Mason and the Royal Literary Fund for making this enriching experience possible.
