Bankfest! Famous writers inspire Students

Students enjoyed working with famous comedians, authors, journalists, musicians, critics and acclaimed games designers, lawyers, advertising creatives and speechwriters at the Bankfest Writing Festival.

More than 40 Colfox students enjoyed inspiring talks from famous broadcasters like Ali Plumb of Radio One, as well as James Serafinowicz, writer for acclaimed shows such as Big Train, Brass Eye, who also cocreated black comedy ‘Sick Note’ starring Rupert Grint. Students also got to work with award-winning advertising creative Chloe Neal, Sports Journalist Emile Nuh, TV Presenter, Doctor and Non Fiction Writer Gabriel Weston and Games Narrative Designer Kate Fanthorpe. The festival, organised by the amazing Bank of Dreams and Nightmares, was held at Weymouthy Pavilion from 13-15 October.

Students from Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form went to three inspiring talks each day, where they also got the chance to go on stage and interview the speakers. It was brilliant that Students from Colfox volunteered to do most of the on-stage interviews, encouraging and supporting each other to take part. A huge well done for conducting brilliant and well researched interviews to all our Students who took part, namely Albert in Year 10 who interviewed Sports Journalist Emile Nuh, Millie in Year 11 who interviewed writer Rebecca Watson, as well as Eddie and Robert in the Sixth Form who interviewed James Serafinowicz and Ali Plumb. The majority of questions from the floor also came from Colfox Students - well done everyone.

Students then got the opportunity to attend different workshops with the speakers, which gave them insights into lots of creative industries, as well as opportunities to write and work with a range of fascinating and successful creatives.
