Bridport Literary Festival Comes to Colfox!

We were delighted to welcome award-winning author Philip Hoare and the public to Colfox this week, as part of Bridport Literary Festival.

Our students were given the opportunity to join the public and hear Philip Hoare's fascinating talk on his book ‘William Blake and the Sea Monsters of Love’.

The talk on Poetry on Thursday was enjoyed by Sixth Formers studying Literature. Mr Hoare’s explored how William Blake has inspired 200 years of art, poetry and protest.

Weaving between the historical, cultural and personal, Mr Hoare revealed a web of creative minds and artistic iconoclasts fired with the wild and revolutionary genius of Blake. Reaching out of his past and into our future, Blake draws together the natural world and metaphysical realms, merging the human and the animal and the spiritual, firing up 20th century artists, filmmakers, poets, writers and musicians with his radical promise of absolute freedom.

Adam Teasdale, Head of Sixth Form at the Sir John Colfox Academy, who gave the introductory speech, said: " “It was great to welcome Bridport Literary Festival to Colfox once again, our students and the public greatly enjoyed the talk. It was a fascinating exploration of William Blake and the art, poetry and protest that he has inspired. Our thanks to Philip Hoare and to all at BridLit.”

Thank you to Joanna Jacobson for helping to bring the Festival to Colfox and to Bridport Book Shop for arranging the book signings.
