Year 9 Options Evening

Options Evening for Year 9 – Tuesday 31 January

This is an important time for Year 9 as they prepare to make decisions about the GCSE courses they want to study, we will be holding an Options Evening on Tuesday 31 January to help support them. (Please note the change of date due to industrial action on the 1 February).

The evening will start at 6pm with a presentation about the process, given by Headteacher Adam Shelley, which will last about half an hour. Students will receive our Options Booklet. Parents and students will then visit departments to talk to subject teachers. The evening will end at 8pm. Choosing option subjects will involve teamwork between yourselves, your child, and the various subject teachers.

The Options Booklet is available below, just click the arrows to navigate and the ‘full screen’ button is third from left.

More information is also available here. The process will start week beginning 6 February with students making their four choices and they will also be asked to pick a reserve. From this we will be able to put the option blocks together that give students, where possible, their main choices. Should we need to use a reserve or the choices do not fit, we will go back and talk to them about re-choosing. We are pleased to say that the majority of students will get their choices. We moved to this student-led system a few years ago and it has proved a great success. The option process will be completed by Easter.

This year all students will choose:

1) A Humanity: Students will choose to do either History or Geography as one of their choices.

2) A Language: Students will take a language qualification they have been following at KS3 either French or Spanish.

3) 2 other options from the booklet given out at the evening

4) A reserve option

The process will also allow for those who want to study both humanities and an additional language. We will support your child throughout.
