KS4 Virtual Options Information

It is that time of year where we are going to ask your daughter or son to choose their GCSE options, which they will start in September 2021.

They have had the chance this year to try different subjects and see what they might want to take for their GCSEs and more importantly what they don’t.  Like everything this year, we cannot do a normal options evening where students can visit the teachers and see some of the students in action.  Instead we have put together a virtual option to help them make these important decisions.

On this page you will see a presentation from the headteacher about how the process works, as well as a careers video to help students consider which options might suit different careers, also the options subject teachers have created a video about their subjects.  We have also produced an options booklet with further information in. We have delayed giving you this until this week so you have all the information together.

Please look through the information and watch the videos so that you can make your choices in the week beginning 8 February. This is the start of the process so we know what subjects you would like to take. It helps us to plan for the final options blocks based on student choices. The process will be completed by Friday 12 March 2021.

This is an important decision for your daughter or son so please talk to them and us if you need to get more guidance and support on what might be best.  We make sure that all students do the GCSEs they will need for most post GCSE courses and employment, eg Maths, English, Science, Geography or History. Their option subjects should be ones they have enjoyed doing in KS3, new subjects they have tried out in Year 9 or brand new subjects they are interested in studying.  If they do this, it will mean they are likely to work harder to get a good grade in them.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school for any additional support or guidance and you can also contact the subject leaders if you would like more information.
