Thank you for your interest in The Sir John Colfox Academy. Whatever your reason for visiting our website, I hope that you are able to access the information that you need. Of course no website can replace the experience of visiting the school and meeting our staff and students. Please do not hesitate to arrange a tour when we would be absolutely delighted to meet you and show you what we have on offer. As both Headteacher and a parent of three children who attend the school, I believe it is a really great offer.
‘Inspiring Learners, Achieving Excellence’ is our aim and I am delighted to lead a wonderful team of teaching and support staff who do their very best to bring this to life for all of our students. We strive to provide high quality learning for all in an environment that is both supportive of individuals and which fosters high aspirations for all. Academically, we are a high performing school. Our successes at GCSE and A Level place us towards the very top of all schools nationally and we are extremely proud of the high standards that our students achieve. When top quality teaching is met with high levels of student effort then great things really can happen!
However, we believe that a first class education is about much more than just exam results. We aspire for all our students to have a school experience that gives them access to a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Whether it is through sport, drama, art, music, school trips, languages, Duke of Edinburgh, our PIXL Edge programme or even public speaking teams; we hope that everyone will take up the opportunities that will add that all important ‘extra’ to their school experience. Our House system plays an especially important role, enabling our students to feel a sense of belonging and taking on important leadership roles. We are particularly proud of the way our older students support our younger students.
We are pleased to be part of the Minerva Learning Trust and the Bridport Pyramid of Schools. Working closely with our feeder schools enables us to provide a transition programme for Year 6 students that really does help them to make great start to secondary school. We are also delighted to be a member of the Jurassic Coast Teaching Alliance, the PIXL group and the Jubilee Network of schools. We enjoy a strong partnership with Beaminster School, with whom we share a thriving 6th Form, and with Yeovil College who help us to support the vocational ambitions of our learners. Being part of strong partnerships is an important feature in growing our successes even further.
Thank you once again for your interest. I look forward to meeting you at the school.
