Fair Promotes Fun and Wellness at Colfox
‘Get Involved and Feel Good’ - that was the message to young people at a special exhibition promoting fun activities, hobbies, local clubs, wellness and more!
Thank you to all providers who exhibited at the Sir John Colfox Academy, the Jurassic Coast Social Prescribing Service, and to students who volunteered to help promote the clubs and societies that they are part of to their peers.
Adam Shelley, Headteacher at the Sir John Colfox Academy said: “It was great to see our Students encouraging others to join in, get involved, try something new and feel good. The atmosphere in our hall was absolutely buzzing as hundreds of students enjoyed the fair.
“Our Students loved trying new things like rowing, music, crafts, dance and exploring new hobbies and activities like motor carting, sea angling, competitive swimming, rugby, creative writing and more. Thank you to the Jurassic Coast Social Prescribing Service and all the exhibitors including all the services and charities who came to promote wellness.”
Colfox Students volunteered to help promote organisations that they are part of at the exhibition and were helping at lots of stalls including the Bridport Barracudas, Bridport Community Shed, Ascape and Bridport Bandits. Well done also to students who are part of Bridport Youth Dance for performing brilliantly on stage throughout the fair.
Emelia in Year 8, was one of many student volunteers. She said: “I enjoyed telling people about the Barracudas and competitive swimming, it was a great atmosphere, there were so many stalls offering lots of different things.”
Jake in Year 10, pictured above, helped on the Bridport Bandits stall, showing students a go-kart vehicle that the group have helped build. He said: “I’m here to let other students know about the club, we get to build cars and race them, it is really fun.”
Angharad Thomas, Jurassic Coast Senior Social Prescriber, said: "‘The Children and Young Person’s Social Prescribing Service is an NHS health initiative all about prevention and early intervention. We wanted this event to show young people all the resources which are out there to help keep them healthy and happy. By bringing these groups under one roof, with a chance to interact and chat, we hoped to help break down some of the barriers to getting involved or getting in touch. Huge thanks to everyone for being there and to Colfox School for hosting."
