The Sir John Colfox Academy Year eleven students finished their last exam on Friday 15th June, and they celebrated in style, as a ten week summer holiday beckoned. Due to changes in exam leave this year, the leavers celebrations took place over two seperate days, a reward for the hard work and endeavour of the students over many years. After the last exam, students began the traditional signing of the shirts followed by a gathering for food and drink in the school canteen. This year the pupils also received an American-style "Yearbook" that will help remind every student of their school days here at the Sir John Colfox Academy. This was followed by an always funny and emotional leavers assembly, where memories and stories were shared between staff and their students. The morning ended with the traditional group photographs before they all went off for the day to enjoy a well-earned break from what is always a demanding exam schedule.
On Monday 17th June the Prom was again held at “The Mill” in Haselbury Plucknett. Students arrived at the School in their amazing evening wear in a collection of glamorous, weird and wonderful chariots (See photos). After catching the coach to The Mill, all sat down to a civilised dinner, with students and staff enjoying a splendid two course meal and fruit cocktails. This was followed by dancing that went long into the night. The evening was another great success, with both staff and pupils commenting on the great atmosphere throughout the night. The conduct of the students was exemplary.
All of our year 11's will be missed, and on behalf of all of the staff at the Academy, we would like to thank them for being a credit to the school, to their parents and the wider Bridport community. We look forward to seeing many return to us for their sixth form education and ultimately wish all the best to those moving on to pastures new.
